This is what I've done since I was 13 (now 24). It will take time to grow, but consistency and self perseverance are key. If you enjoy developing and coding in ANY language then you'll have no problems with establishing a well rounded portfolio. FYI no degree and my portfolio got me the job im currently with-which handles the development of custom software for businesses. I have to add that variety is also extremely important. Knowing a single language wont get you far.
